Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen

Daywalker, giv slip

24.04.2010 - 13.06.2010

In this exhibition, Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen presents a series of new paintings installed with blackboards, upon which small dialogues are written in an interplay between image and text. The paintings are framed by odd fragments of text and a diary written by a vampire, who is the artist himself. Schmidt-Rasmussen presents us with stories from his own neighbourhood, the South Harbour district of Copenhagen, which represents a classic terrain vague, and he also traverses the rest of Copenhagen, as well as Hvide Sande, Spodsbjerg and Istanbul.

The paintings communicate atmospheres in which the everyday and trivial is illuminated by the poetic presence of colour and glitter, but also by a melancholy darkness. In this solo exhibition, Schmidt-Rasmussen addresses the relationship between the immediate and the distant world. Through the bloodthirsty figure, he cleans up his immediate surroundings and aims to dissolve, destabilise and deceive them in order to reveal another, more complex reality.
